3 & 24 FEBRUARY 2021

The February Webinar Series is split into two sessions:

  • Part 2: The value of peer support in postvention, 12-2pm, Wed 24 February

Part 1: Types of post-suicide support

Postvention Australia is honoured to have esteemed speakers to discuss the different modalities of post-suicide support, particularly for the bereaved at different stages of the bereavement process:

  • John R (Jack) Jordan, PhD,S., will be outlining the types of postvention available for the bereaved including: clinical support, peer support, support groups, online platforms, practical assistance, and community based post-suicide support
  • Karen Phillips, Standby National General Manager, & Susan Vaughan, National Program and Innovation Manager, will present on the newly announced NSW Post-Suicide Support Initiative, which blends a number of these modalities
  • Dr Louise Flynn, Manager, Support After Suicide Jesuit Social Services, will speak on the clinically led support groups and counselling programs available for the bereaved
  • Q&A session

Part 2: The value of peer support in postvention
12-2pm AEDT, Wed 24 February

This webinar acknowledges the value of lived experience and peers in post-suicide support. First-hand knowledge, understanding of bereavement & healing journey are vital in supporting those impacted by suicide, whilst also instilling a sense of purpose for the peer workers themselves. The session includes:

  • Jill Chapman, Co-Founder, MOSH (Minimisation of Suicide Harm), will present on the suicide bereavement support groups she ran, after losing her son, Michael, to suicide.
  • Louise Flynn, Manager, Support After Suicide Jesuit Social Services, will run an informative session aimed at those bereaved by suicide who wish to start their own support groups.
  • Panel discussion between speakers Louise, Jill and a peer support group attendee, on their experiences in facilitating and attending peer support groups.
  • Q&A session
